The Long and Short of Plus Size Summer Dress Trends

Plus size maxi dresses in new bohemian-inspired prints are breezing into summer style previews with more vibrancy than ever this year. While maxi dresses of past seasons have been more of the stretch knit variety like long tank dresses and plus size t shirt dresses, these maxi dresses are more like the peasant dresses of the 60’s and 70’s. Prints are nostalgic with paisleys and even tie dye print maxi dresses. Some have embroidered details, some with cotton cutwork, a very classic summer standard. On the short end of plus size dress trends is the linen sheath with eyelet, a more classic variety of the dress in cotton crochet. Also, new bandeau dresses and babydolls. While babydoll dresses of the past may have seemed too juvenile or too much like maternity dresses, these more modern shapes offer the same feminine style but with more flattering shapes and classic empire-waist styling. Can’t choose between short or long? A new trend in plus size summer dresses is the hi-lo hemline. A high-low dress is usually long in the back and short in the front so you can have the coverage and length of a maxi dress with a little bit of dimension and lightness in the front-maybe to show off a little (but not a lot) of leg. A print dress with lace trim, tiers and ruffles are also big this year, completing the retro-chic look of the plus size new dresses bohemian trends.
