Plus Size Oscar Dresses-Who Wore it Best?

We always like to do a red carpet roundup after the Oscars because it’s so fun! There are our favorite plus size fashion ladies who outshine many starlets and then there are some dresses we see that look like dresses in our plus size special occasion dress collection which always makes us happy to see we are on-trend and can offer our lovely ladies the most-wanted plus size formal dresses and evening gowns. So some loves and hates. Who loved Ann Hathaway’s dress? Not many! Something about the seams right there on the bust made critics dislike her choice. Everyone loved Queen Latifah in modern white, Halle Berry in sleek silver and black, Sally Field in rich red and Adele in embellished black that sparkled as she sang. Octavia Spencer wore a custom-made champagne colored gown that really flattered her curves and honestly, who couldn’t give Jane Fonda full credit for showing up in an incredibly stunning bright yellow Versace gown with a cutout back? Who do you think stood out the most this year?

Spring for Color-Hot New Color Trends

Weather or not, people are starting to wear their favorite spring colors anyway. It must be a collective desire for the season to please come – and soon! While spring new arrivals always bring a softer palette and fresh hues, this season is showing some unique color trends we wanted to share with you. For starters, there’s something for everyone and also something from every era. Neon from the 80’s, prints from the 70’s, primaries from the 60’s and futuristic shades that are closer to metallics than anything else for right here and now!  While pink used to be the perfect pastel for every spring occasion, corals and violets have become the go-to colors for special occasion dresses and plus size casual dresses. While navy is always in, especially with nautical trends and plus size suits, there is a new deeper, almost metallic navy that seems to be the next color choice for jackets and dresses. Olive is also showing itself to be a spring color where in the past it tended to stick to fall. This olive is not a military drab but a rich and lively green. The naturals of spring (think light khaki) have transformed into true nudes with lighter, fresher tones. If you’re a fan of the brights you will find an abundance of bold yellows, cobalt blue and orange. Plus size maxi dresses are offered in more vibrant prints than ever before from graphics to florals. No matter what your favorite colors, you will find great choices for this spring season.

London’s Plus Size Fashion Weekend a Great Success

Attended by many famous plus size models and bloggers, the first ever plus size fashion weekend organized by blogger Remi Ray and plus size magazine editor Rianne Ward, attracted the global plus size community. SimplyBe, who was the event’s headline sponsor showcased plus size lingerie and shapewear. Besides showing the new plus size clothing collections, London’s Plus Size Fashion Weekend was a venue for plus size models to strut their stuff where they had not been welcomed by small-size designers at other fashion events. Thirteen plus size clothing designers attended fashion week. The mission statement of the event is “We are dedicated to Plus-Size fashion in the UK. We aim to ENHANCE, EDUCATE, EMPOWER and SUPPORT the UK plus-size industry by connecting the dots between the retailers, designers and consumers.” In addition to fashion shows, panels on plus size dressing and plus size living were also held.

What’s Trending Now: “Fatshion”, the new popular tag on Tumblr used by plus size bloggers.

There’s been an upswing in blogging over the past few years about plus size fashion and being plus size. These bloggers have offered insightful and very interesting takes on what it means to shop as a plus size woman and also provide their fashion expertise, which spans the size ranges. A woman’s taste in clothes is by no means determined by her size so why wouldn’t she be just as much of a fashion expert as the a smaller sized woman? A recent article on the Daily Beast talked about the new plus size blogging trend saying that “Until recently, fashion blogging had been the domain of pint-sized women. But sick of being ignored by fashion magazines…a growing number of (plus size) women are taking their musings online.” In a reaction to New York Fashion Week’s traditionally skinny models, many plus size bloggers are claiming this month to be “Fatshion February” to take back fashion for plus sizes. In an attempt to de-stigmatize the word fat, there have also been a lot of events and blogs named things like, Fatshion Daily, Fatshion Insider and Fat girls Like Nice Clothes too. Whether you agree with this more aggressive way to approach plus size dressing and plus size trends, it’s always good to have an open forum for women to shop and find what clothing will fit them and flatter them best. Gone are the days when we had only one or two choices in our size. With the latest plus size dresses, plus size new arrivals and so many options, each one of us can express our unique style as we choose. Individuality defined by more than our waistlines and our sizes is what counts the most! To read the full article on the plus size blogging craze, click here.

Coming in second is the sheath dress in sophisticated and tailored shapes but made new in bold and bright colors. We are also very surprised to find that a plus size fashion trend we have loved forever is back and better than before: allover lace. Famous, Fashionable & Funny! Who Makes You Laugh?

Our favorite comediennes are also very fashionable these days. It seemed like female comics, while always humorous and on point, were not always considered fashionable in the past (think Roseanne Barr). But now there’s a new crop of lovely ladies making themselves known and stealing the show who are attractive, modern and trend setters too. Of course, Queen Latifah comes to mind immediately as a beautiful plus size woman who is practically an icon for plus size clothes. She could even be considered a barrier-breaker for women in comedy with her amazing acting talent, gorgeous style and beauty. Now with a new movie coming out, Melissa McCarthy has shown the world that plus size women can be screen stars, have their own hit TV show (Mike & Molly) and still rock the red carpet in a beautiful plus size dress as Lena Dunham did in a Zac Posen gown at the the Golden Globes when accepting her award for Best Actress in a TV comedy series. Other comediennes we love include Mindy Kaling who just got her own sitcom, The Mindy Project. And who could forget SNL’s Maya Rudolph who also had us in stitches along with Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids. Who is your favorite funny lady?
